AdventHealth DeLand now offers the da Vinci Xi surgical robotic system, making it the latest hospital in the AdventHealth network to provide robotic-assisted procedures.
AdventHealth is the only health care system in West Volusia County offering this advanced technology, giving patients greater access to minimally invasive surgical options that often mean smaller incisions, less pain and a faster recovery.
The new da Vinci Xi surgical robotic system at AdventHealth DeLand is part of a major investment across the AdventHealth network to bring advanced surgical care to the community.

Now, all seven AdventHealth hospitals in the area – including AdventHealth hospitals Daytona Beach, DeLand, New Smyrna Beach, Orange City, Palm Coast, and Tavares – offer this cutting-edge technology. With 14 da Vinci surgical robotic systems, surgeons performed more than 2,000 robotic procedures in 2023 alone, underscoring AdventHealth’s commitment to innovation.

General surgeon Dr. Michele Malit, an experienced robotically-trained surgeon, performed AdventHealth DeLand’s first procedure using the da Vinci Xi.
A member of the talented robotically-trained surgery team in West Volusia County, Malit’s fellow surgeons include Dr. Rachel Raphael, Dr. Frank Velez and Dr. Huy Hoang. These surgeons are part of AdventHealth Medical Group’s team of over 400 physicians and advanced practice providers with more than 70 practice locations across Flagler, Lake, Sumter and Volusia counties.

“Our industry-leading surgeons are continuing to elevate patient care using state-of-the-art technology,” said Eric Lunde, president and CEO of AdventHealth DeLand. "In the hands of these incredible surgeons, this multifaceted piece of surgical technology helps us deliver even better care, closer to home, right here in West Volusia County.”
