AdventHealth Sebring is the first hospital in Highlands County to be named an accredited silver status geriatric emergency department by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) through its Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation (GEDA) Program. This silver designation is awarded to hospitals that provide senior patients with a high standard of care and meet their unique healthcare needs in the emergency room.
“Becoming the first accredited geriatric emergency department in Highlands County to achieve silver status, is an honor and a true testament to the high level of emergency care patients receive at an AdventHealth hospital,” said Randy Surber, President, and CEO of AdventHealth Sebring. “This accolade would not have been possible without the hard work of all our teams, who put quality and safety at the forefront of all they do.”
AdventHealth Sebring provides older adults with personalized, unique care that will help them feel safe, during and after a visit to the ER. The care team is staffed with physicians, transitional nurses, therapists, social workers, and pharmacists who work specifically with seniors, their caregivers, and primary care physicians to ensure each patient’s needs are met.
“This designation is humbling and highlights our unwavering commitment to providing the highest level of geriatric medicine in Highlands County,” said Victoria Selley, Emergency Department medical director for AdventHealth Sebring, Wauchula, and Lake Placid. “By undergoing this rigorous accreditation process, we have solidified our promise to the community that we will meet their unique needs and ensure they receive the highest quality of care closer to home.”
AdventHealth Lake Placid and AdventHealth Wauchula are also recipients of bronze geriatric accreditation designations. The GEDA program was developed to ensure older adults receive quality care at every level of their hospital stay. ACEP accreditation requires hospital emergency departments to meet specific environmental criteria, such as ensuring easy patient access to water and mobility aids; and implementing a geriatric quality-improvement program.
