AdventHealth Oncology social worker Carmen Dossett’s job is to connect patients with the services they need. But for at least one patient she works with at the AdventHealth Cancer Institute, that connection extended beyond the patient to her family and beyond oncology services to providing joy during the holiday season. The young family with three children struggles with their wife and mother battling breast cancer. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.
“You can tell in their voices at times they’re pretty stressed and as I got into the stories with (the husband) and his wife, I realized this is a family that needs a good amount of support,” Dossett told WKMG-TV channel 6.
Carmen requested that the family be adopted by the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, which allows donors to select a family in need to uplift with joy during the holidays.
