AdventHealth has named Alan Verrill, MD, president and CEO of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Johnson County, Kansas, effective Feb. 25. He will report to Sam Huenergardt, who will continue to lead the Mid-America Region as regional president/CEO.
“With his background in medicine, Dr. Verrill is passionate about delivering high-quality, compassionate health care,” Huenergardt said. “He is a collaborator focused on building highly engaged and effective teams and we are excited to have him join our leadership at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.”
Already a leader in the Mid-America Region, Dr. Verrill is transitioning to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission from his role as president and CEO of AdventHealth South Overland Park, which opened as a full-service hospital in 2021. During his time there, the facility was named a Top Hospital by the Leapfrog Group in 2023. Before joining the team in Kansas, he was the chief medical officer at AdventHealth Littleton in Colorado for five years.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve a place like AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, which has a long legacy of providing outstanding faith-based care,” Dr. Verrill said. “I will greatly miss the incredible team at AdventHealth South Overland Park, and look forward to seeing our mission continue to grow across the Johnson County community.”
Dr. Verrill is a veteran of the United States Air Force and is a licensed internal medicine physician with over 25 years of experience in the hospital setting. He earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Atlantic Union College.
Dr. Verrill and his wife Melitta have three adult children. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, hiking, fishing and reading.
