AdventHealth has appointed Brett Spenst to the position of CEO of its Orlando campus. Spenst is a health care veteran, who has most recently served for nearly seven years as CEO of Littleton Adventist Hospital in Littleton, Colorado, which is also an AdventHealth facility managed by Centura Health. In his new role, he will now report to Eric Stevens, CEO of acute care services for AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division.
“Brett has a legacy of successful leadership with AdventHealth,” said AdventHealth President/CEO Terry Shaw. “I am confident his commitment to our mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ will inspire our teams as we continue to build our national brand.”
Spenst replaces Eric Stevens who was promoted to CEO of acute care services for the Central Florida Division.
AdventHealth Orlando serves both as a community hospital and as a major tertiary referral hospital for the region, much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and Latin America. The campus also includes AdventHealth for Women and AdventHealth for Children. As CEO, Spenst will lead 8,100 employees and oversee operations of the 1,368-bed acute care medical campus.
“One of Brett’s greatest strengths is his diverse background in the health care industry and experience in various markets. As we look to improve patient care, strengthen our programs and innovate, Brett’s leadership will be pivotal during this transformation,” said Stevens. “Brett leads from the heart and has the highest respect for our team members and physicians.”
Spenst is expected to formally assume his new role in March. Chief Operating Officer Geoff Lawton will act as interim CEO for Littleton Adventist Hospital until a decision is made on Spenst’s replacement.
“I’m thrilled to be joining AdventHealth Orlando. This is an exciting time for the organization and I’m inspired by the mission, the team members and physicians whose dedication to clinical excellence, compassionate care and healing the entire community is unparalleled,” said Spenst.
Spenst worked for 20 years with Adventist Health in California in various leadership roles, including chief information officer. He subsequently served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Kettering Health Network in Ohio. A graduate of Loma Linda University, Spenst is a certified public accountant and completed his MBA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
He and his wife, Holly, have two adult children.
