The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog nonprofit for hospital quality and safety, has released the 2022 Top Hospital awards and fall 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades using stringent criteria to assess hospitals for their safety and quality of care.
The highly competitive designation of a Leapfrog Top Hospital is earned only by hospitals that meet the high standards of the Top Hospital award's methodology, which considers qualities such as preventing medical errors, maternity care quality, infection rates and more.
In 2022, only 5% of hospitals evaluated by Leapfrog met these rigorous standards – a total of 115 facilities – for the Top Hospital designation. AdventHealth represents nearly a tenth of the list with nine AdventHealth hospitals across the country earning the Top Hospital designation.

In Central Florida, AdventHealth Daytona Beach was designated a top general hospital; AdventHealth for Children was designated a top children’s hospital; and AdventHealth Orlando was designated a top teaching hospital.
More than two dozen AdventHealth hospitals nationally also earned an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade in the latest analysis released for fall 2022. This additional evaluation analyzes performance related to preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other potential harms to patients in their care.
Within Central Florida, AdventHealth Altamonte Springs, Celebration, Daytona Beach, DeLand, East Orlando, Fish Memorial, New Smyrna Beach, Orlando and Winter Park all earned “A” safety grades.
In addition, AdventHealth Daytona Beach is among the few hospitals in the nation to receive 22 consecutive “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades since the grading system’s inception in 2012.
“Patient safety is our top priority at AdventHealth Daytona Beach, and we are proud to be recognized as a straight-A hospital by the Leapfrog Group,” said David Weis, President & CEO of AdventHealth Daytona Beach. “It’s a testament to our team’s hard work, dedication and compassion.”
“We are honored to recognize a number of AdventHealth hospitals as a Top Hospital this year,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “These hospitals have demonstrated that they truly put patients first. We congratulate the board, staff and clinicians whose efforts made this honor possible.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients.
“This national recognition is a direct reflection of the caliber of our physicians and clinical teams,” said Dr. Neil Finkler, chief clinical officer for AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division. “Our clinicians are experts in their fields, leading in their disciplines, and these designations from Leapfrog affirm their intense dedication to delivering the highest quality patient care.”
Earlier this year, AdventHealth was the first and only health system to earn the Emerald Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Health Care System, which honored AdventHealth’s performance across Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grades and Top Hospital award.
