As of Nov. 1, all cancer treatment services at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach will be provided on-site by AdventHealth clinicians, all of whom are now part of the nationally recognized AdventHealth Cancer Institute.

“Before joining the AdventHealth family in 2016, the hospital operated as Bert Fish Medical Center and Halifax Health historically provided the cancer services,” said Jenna Van Gilder, regional director for clinical oncology operations at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach. “Now we are proud to have the opportunity to offer these services through AdventHealth’s nationally ranked network of cancer care, ushering in a new era of health care locally.”
AdventHealth Cancer Institute is ranked among the top 50 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report and has been recognized for excellence by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and the American College of Radiology, among other respected organizations.
As part of this transition, residents of southeast Volusia County will have access to the nationally renowned AdventHealth network. This comprehensive continuum of care includes services ranging from disease prevention and state-of-the-art detection to treatment and research along with the area’s only genetic counseling services. Educational, psychological and spiritual support round out the comprehensive approach to cancer care available to AdventHealth patients and their families. Additionally, AdventHealth will bring new clinicians to the area, including board-certified radiation oncologist, Dr. Joyson Kodiyan.

As the author of numerous published abstracts in peer-reviewed publications, Kodiyan is a distinguished expert in his field and has presented at medical conferences in New York and Florida. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami and completed his residency in radiation oncology at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in New York, where he served as chief resident. He most recently practiced in Charleston, West Virginia.
“Having a physician of Dr. Kodiyan’s caliber, combined with an incredible team and access to nationally recognized cancer care right here in southeast Volusia County, is something very special,” said Dr. Dennis Hernandez, president and CEO for AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach. “Our long-term goal is to provide an even wider range of cancer services, so residents don’t have to leave the area to get the care they need. In the coming months, we will welcome additional physicians, increasing the access our community has to expert clinical care close to home.”
Kodiyan’s practice is located at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach, 401 Palmetto St., New Smyrna Beach, and can be reached at 386-424-6327.
