Adventist Health System has promoted Rena Freeman to the position of vice president of total rewards. Freeman assumed her new role on Jan. 21, 2018, and reports to Adventist Health System Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Olesea Azevedo.
In what is a new role to Adventist Health System, Freeman, who previously served as the organization's executive director of compensation and benefits, is now responsible for the systemwide total rewards strategy, which includes leading the planning, design, implementation, maintenance and administration of all compensation and benefits programs.
'Rena brings a wealth of HR experience to this role, and we are excited to have the opportunity to leverage her expertise,' said Azevedo. 'Her leadership in this capacity will be critical in aligning and implementing compensation and benefits programs that enable us to attract and retain health care leaders and top talent to help fulfill our mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ.'
Her career includes serving in various capacities with Adventist Health System and Florida Hospital over the course of 27 years. This includes serving as director of HR operations for Adventist Health System, a position she held for 15 years. Prior to that, she served as compensation manager at Florida Hospital, and as a compensation analyst before that.
Freeman earned a master's degree in business administration from Miami (Ohio) University, and a bachelor's degree from Andrews University. Currently, she chairs Adventist Health System's HR policy subcommittee and serves on the board of Florida Hospital Church, where she is also actively involved in community service initiatives. In the past, she served as board chair for Orlando Junior Academy.
Freeman and her husband, Spencer, who has worked with Adventist Health System for many years as a photographer, have one daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with family, gardening and cooking.
