About Our Program
Welcome to the AdventHealth Orlando PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program! During this 52-week program, the residents focus will be on professional development while having full exposure to a spectrum of diverse patient populations.
AdventHealth Orlando is a 1,067-bed acute care community teaching hospital which serves as a major tertiary facility for the Southeast, the Caribbean, and South America. AdventHealth Orlando is home to nationally recognized institutes and adult care programs for cancer, cardiology, critical care, diabetes, emergency medicine, general surgery, infectious diseases, internal medicine, oncology, orthopedics, neuroscience, and solid organ transplant. AdventHealth for Children is a 230-bed acute care pediatric hospital. AdventHealth Orlando has one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. Affiliated with seven other acute care hospitals in Central Florida and twenty-four through the state of Florida, AdventHealth Orlando is one of the largest Medicare providers in the United States. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the United States and as the number one program in Florida, AdventHealth Orlando has a long-standing history of excellence in patient care and provides a robust portfolio of specialty services as well as cutting edge clinical programs to highly complex patient populations.
The AdventHealth Orlando Pharmacy Department is automated with decentralized unit-based dispensing cabinets throughout all patient care areas. The department has a USP compliant clean room which provides sterile product services to patient care areas. The hospital is equipped with computerized physician order entry and utilizes Epic as our electronic medical record. Decentralized pharmacists provide pharmaceutical care and patient education throughout AdventHealth Orlando every day to assure safe, accurate, and cost-effective medication therapy. Rich traditions of practice and evidence-based excellence serve as the fundamental principles of the clinical programs and pharmacy services at AdventHealth Orlando. Comprehensive pharmaceutical care is incorporated throughout the institution via clinical and operational practice and interdisciplinary teamwork. Pharmacists work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and key stakeholders to detect, mitigate, and prevent medication adverse events and to ensure medication use processes are aligned with national evidence-based best practices and regulatory standards.
Training pharmacy residents is core to our values and beliefs and we take a personalized approach to prepare residents to lead the field. We are a large residency program which trains over 20 PGY-1 and PGY-2 pharmacy residents each year. Our program has been continuously accredited by the American Society for Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) since 1999.
Feel welcome to reach out with questions. We look forward to seeing you on campus!
